A great dining experience depends on so many factors- the delicious food is the icing on the cake. Constantly pursuing the mission of providing that whole experience for my clients, I seek and try restaurants that also strive to create that whole perfect experience for its guests.
Inspired by one of our favorite cookbooks, Sunday Suppers at Lucques, we made the drive to Hollywood to experience Suzanne Goin’s market fresh, seasonally driven cuisine. The drive was well worth the extraordinary tastes and culinary experience we had at Lucques.
Suzanne Goin, well deserved in earning her 2006 James Beard Foundation award of Excellence for Best Chef in California not only creates outstanding food and flavor combinations, but uses local, seasonal, market fresh ingredients to do so, enhancing the taste and quality of her cuisine tenfold. You can taste the care and attention to detail infused throughout the meal. From the ultra light carrot puree soup with creme fraiche served with rustic baguette and rolls, to the last bite of the whole fried branzino, or the roasted rabbit with figs and ricotta gnocchi, the meal was exceptional balanced and satisfying.
My chef partner and I are practically impossible to impress when dining out. We expect attentive service, high quality cuisine, interesting preparations, and ambiance. We expect the details(!) and rarely find a restaurant that offers this well rounded approach to the dining experience.
Oceanaire provides a well rounded dining experience
It’s sometimes hard to find a restaurant that impresses on all levels of the dining experience. Because of the high quality that I provide to my clients, I expect that same quality when dining out. The food should taste fresh and delicious, be pleasing to the eye, and leave you feeling satisfied but not over-stuffed or bloated. The service should be attentive, friendly, and professional, and you should never have to wonder “where is that server?” or “why am I on course three and yet have no bread or beverage?” The ambience should match the style of cuisine, the restaurant should be clean, and the dining experience comfortable. I find it rare (in San Diego) that a restaurant fulfills all three categories of this total experience.
